With both students and faculty of the Department of Civil Engineering as its members, CEA is one of the most active associations in NIT Calicut. CEA is involved in various activities like workshops, lectures, competitions, projects throughout the year to keep students posted with latest advancement in the field of civil engineering.

A workshop on AUTOCAD is organized by CEA every year for civil engineering students especially for second years. AUTOCAD is a software application for 2D and 3D computer aided design which is used across a range of industries.

CEA became a platform for Autodesk to organize 3D STUDENT DESIGN CHALLENGE 2013 which gave an opportunity to students to demonstrate their 3D design skills.

Workshop on STAAD is conducted every year on tathva. STAAD ,which is a structural analysis and design software used for design of virtually any structure through its flexible modeling and fluent data collaboration, has become an integral part of structural analysis and design solutions.

Workshop on TOTAL STATION is usually conducted on tathva. Total station is an electronic theodolite integrated with an Electronic Distance Meter (EDM) which is used in modern surveying and building construction.

CEA has organized various talks and seminars to bridge the gap between industry, academia and students by giving an opportunity to interact with distinguished practitioners of the profession. Some of them include

Detailing practices and Engineering Management - Dr,Manu Alex
Stability of seismic resistance structures - Dr.Datta TK, Prof, IIT Delhi
Computer Simulation in the study of Human Movement - Prof.Anantharaman Gopalakrishnan
Use of Software in Civil Engineering - Dr.Devdas Menon, Prof,IIT Madras
Analyze and design turbo generated foundation - Mr.Jayarajan P
Ground Water Hydrology - Dr. P.G. Shastri
Building Assesment and Retrofitting - Dr. A.P. Shashikala
Career Opportunities in Civil Engineering - Dr. P. Syamala

The lecture series has drawn academicians and researchers in the field of civil engineering within the state.

Frequent visits to various industries, construction sites and hydraulic structures are organized by CEA with the primary aim of exposing students to the site and so as to inculcate in them the interest towards field work and so that they apply the knowledge in their theoretical courses as well. The sites visited include Banasura Sagar Dam, Edakkal Caves, Karapuzha Dam, Idukki Dam, Malampuzha Dam, construction site of NITC Mega Hostel etc.

The CEA prides itself in the lively interaction between the students and the faculty. This is manifested clearly in the fresher’s orientation conducted in the beginning of academic year. CEA helps in the overall development of students pursuing Civil Engineering in NITC by giving academic as well as moral support. Students are told about the activities of CEA, method to study, time management, examination pattern, method of evaluation, grading system and placement opportunities. This allows the students to orient themselves to student life in NITC and reduce tension in the changing environment.

CEA conducts a series of ten mock gate exams which is an integral part for the preparation of GATE exam for final year civil engineering students to make themselves identify their strength and weaknesses in the subject. Students get exposed to high quality questions which help in concept strengthening.
